The Voere 2155 Cougar Mauser 98 chambered in .30-06 Springfield is a bolt-action sporting rifle featuring a 22-inch barrel and a Redfield riflescope. This rifle combines the traditional Mauser 98-style action with the well-established .30-06 Springfield cartridge and a classic Redfield optic.
Voere is an Austrian firearms manufacturer with a history of producing sporting rifles and other firearms for the international market. The 2155 Cougar represents a sporting-rifle configuration associated with the company’s Mauser-based designs.
Exact specifications can vary according to production period and individual rifle configuration. The markings on the receiver, barrel, bolt, and other components should be used to verify the exact configuration of the individual rifle.
Voere is an Austrian manufacturer with a history dating back to the early 20th century. The company has produced sporting rifles in a variety of configurations and chamberings.
The 2155 Cougar is associated with the Mauser 98-style bolt-action design. The Mauser 98 action is historically significant and has been used as the foundation for sporting rifles from numerous manufacturers.
Individual Voere rifles can differ according to production period, intended market, stock configuration, barrel specifications, and other features. Consequently, the actual firearm should be used as the primary reference when documenting detailed specifications.
The Mauser 98 action is one of the most influential bolt-action designs in firearms history. Originally developed in Germany, the design became widely recognized for its controlled-round-feed operating system and dual front locking lugs.
Commercial sporting rifles based on the Mauser 98 design have been manufactured by numerous companies around the world. Features can vary considerably between manufacturers and production periods, so the presence of a Mauser-style action should not automatically be taken as evidence that every component is identical to an original military Mauser 98.
The Voere 2155 Cougar represents a sporting application of this established bolt-action design.
The .30-06 Springfield is one of the most widely recognized American centerfire rifle cartridges. Introduced in the early 20th century, it has been used extensively in military, sporting, hunting, and target applications.
The cartridge uses a .308-inch-diameter projectile and is available today with a wide range of factory ammunition. Bullet weights and projectile designs vary depending on the intended application and ammunition manufacturer.
Published ballistic specifications can differ according to ammunition, barrel length, environmental conditions, and individual firearm. For current ammunition information, users should consult the ammunition manufacturer’s published data and follow all applicable safety instructions.
This Voere 2155 Cougar features a 22-inch barrel, providing the rifle with a traditional sporting-rifle configuration.
When evaluating a pre-owned rifle, the barrel should be inspected for its exterior condition, muzzle and crown, bore, rifling, and chamber. Visible wear, finish changes, or other characteristics should be evaluated from the individual firearm.
The barrel markings can also provide useful information when identifying the rifle’s chambering and manufacturing characteristics.
The rifle is equipped with a Redfield riflescope. Redfield has a long history of producing sporting optics, including riflescopes designed for hunting and outdoor applications.
Because Redfield produced numerous scope models over different periods, the exact model, magnification, objective diameter, reticle, and adjustment configuration should be confirmed from the markings on the optic.
The scope shown with the rifle should be documented according to its actual markings rather than assuming a particular Redfield model.
For historical and product information concerning Redfield optics, current information may be available through Leupold’s manufacturer resources, as Leupold acquired the Redfield brand.

The condition of this Voere 2155 Cougar Mauser 98 .30-06 should be evaluated from the listing photographs and, where appropriate, an in-person inspection.
Areas that may be examined include the stock, receiver, bolt, barrel, bore, trigger assembly, sights, scope, and mounting hardware. Vintage sporting rifles can exhibit varying degrees of finish wear, stock marks, scratches, or other signs of previous use.
The listing includes the Redfield scope shown with the rifle. Any rings, bases, lens covers, sling, case, or other accessories should only be considered included if specifically identified in the listing or photographs.
For additional information concerning Voere firearms, historical documentation and specialist references may be useful because older Voere models are no longer represented in the same way as many current-production firearms.

When documenting an older Voere rifle, the receiver markings, serial number, proof marks, barrel markings, and other identifying features can assist with establishing its configuration and production history.
The Voere 2155 Cougar should always be handled responsibly and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Treat every firearm as though it is loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep fingers outside the trigger guard until ready to fire, and verify the firearm is unloaded before handling, cleaning, transporting, or storing it.
Because this is a potentially older Mauser-based rifle, a qualified gunsmith should evaluate its mechanical condition before firing if there is any uncertainty regarding the action, bore, chamber, ammunition compatibility, or overall condition.
